From the urban edgelands of Hackney Marsh to the vastness of the Lake District there is a thread which ties ancestry and place in Lucy Merriman’s paintings.
She follows a path between tension and control, allowing the materials to flow freely between energy, simplicity and yet keeping a sense of space and calm. Reflecting her experiences in the landscape she evokes feelings of change, growth and the passage of time. Lucy’s printmaking frequently draws inspiration from nature, entwining organic forms with abstract elements to explore the interrelation of life and the environment prompting viewers to consider their relationship with the natural world.
Lucy is an emerging British artist based in East London. She graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA in Textile Design, establishing her first print studio in Shoreditch 1992. In the lockdown of 2020, Lucy shifted focus from design to artistic practice primarily in painting and printmaking.
